NIGHT TOUR (HIDDEN VALLEY)

For those who wish to discover the night-time wonders of the forest, a visit to Hidden Valley is a must.
Located in a lower altitude than the Monteverde Reserve, this small, 11 hectare reserve, was purchased by its founder, David Savage, in 1979. At this time, much of the surrounding land was still being cleared and deforested for cattle pastures. The Savage family decided to protect their land, creating one of the country’s first conservation projects in the area. It has a pre-mountain forest and thanks to the influence of the Pacific Ocean winds, more species of plants and trees can be seen in this transition area.
After enjoying the beautiful sunset, visitors will first have the possibility to observe some diurnal species. As darkness falls, the forest awakes once again, as the nocturnal creatures start to emerge. The guide will explain many of the unique sights and unusual sounds while pointing out an array of insects, reptiles, birds and mammals that inhabit the forest at night.
Snakes, spiders, especially tarantulas, sleeping blue crowned mot-mots, tiny tree frogs, coatimundis, agoutis, a sleepy sloth, a wide-eyed kinkajou, an armadillo, or the highly endangered olingo are some of the species that can be spotted.

Recommendations: Visitors are advised to wear long pants and suitable, covered footwear and to bring a jacket; temperatures can get pretty cool at night! Flash-lights are provided.

Includes: Entrance fee, tour with a bilingual naturalist guide and transportation.
