Tours | Jun 12 | 2020 | No Comment

Duration: 6 Hours approx. Full Day

Available: all year round.

Operates: Daily.

Description: Departure from San Pedro de Atacama at 06:00 am, taking the old route to Tatio and following the Cuesta del Diablo road until reaching Saciel Camp. From here, a drive on a narrow road ends at an old sulfur mine. Visitors reach the mine’s entrance, from where the climb begins to the summit of Sairecabur Volcano, 5,000 meters above sea level (16,404 ft.). The volcano’s name in Ckunza means “rain mountain” because of the mountain’s rainy and windy atmosphere. The climb is three to four hours long and trekkers will have to cross over boulders and rocky terrain that may slow down the walk. After summiting, a two-hour descent follows to the mine’s entrance, where a vehicle will be waiting to drive the group back to San Pedro.  An expert mountain climber will accompany visitors throughout the hike.
