ANDEAN LAKE CROSSING (SHARED TOUR)
The Cruce Andino, the mythical road through the Lagos andinos Patagónicos (Andean Patagonian Lakes,) which joins Argentina and Chile. Through it, the native huillichesand mapuches traveled for over four centuries, leaving their mark on the legends of the area and a history that is coming back to life throughout this trip. The Cruce Andino gives us the chance to live out a once-in-a-lifetime moment, surrounded by awe-inspiring scenery.
Departing from Puerto Pañuelo, on the Llao Llao peninsula, we’ll sail for an hour through the most important branch of the Lago Nahuel Huapi. Prepare your camera for the best sights of the Islote Centinela (Centinela Island,) resting place of Perito Francisco P. Moreno, father of the Argentinean National Parks. Also, get your heart ready to be astounded by the beauty of the Blanca (white) waterfalls and from there continue on to Puerto Blest. Once you dock, you can tour the Bahía Blest (Blest Bay) and Rio Frías and its surprising and unusual green waters, coming down from the pure glaciers of Cerro Tronador. You can make a stop at this port and stay at the recently remodeled Puerto Blest Hotel, where you can enjoy the magical location, go into the vast Selva Valdiviana, enjoy the multiple trekking options available and see the majestic Cascada de los Cántaros. After docking at Puerto Blest, a bus then takes you through the woods for a 15 minute drive (approximately 3 km or 1.8 miles.) The bus follows the Lago Frías along a winding road with breathtaking scenery that leads to Puerto Alegre, on the bank of Lago Frías. Once there, you get on another boat and sail on the lake for about 25 minutes up to Puerto Frías.
After completing all immigration and customs procedures, a 4×4 bus built especially for the mountain takes you to the highest point of the entire crossing to cross the international border with Chile. You’ll see the unbeatable landscapes of the Selva Valdiviana up to Peulla. This ecological town, located at the heart of the Parque Nacional Vicente Pérez Rosales, is without a doubt a place where nature and magic become one. The thousand-year-old forest and lush vegetation amazes all visitors with its stunning views, waterfalls, streams, lakes and variety of birds. This and several outdoor activities make Peulla a daily visited tourist attraction, and this is our choice destination to stop for lunch.
After lunch, a boat will take you to Lago Todos los Santos, heading to Petrohue, where you’ll travel by land again, visiting the Saltos de Petrohue (entrance fee is not included, and it’s not visited year-round, only during months when access to them and daylight allows.) Finally, following the Lago Llanquihue, you arrive at the city of Puerto Varas.
